http too many requests

So im getting too many requests code, probably because ive had my lights running 2 days straight during christmas. My question is do you have the same restriction when using mqtt instead of http request? I want to do more with my lights but i need to be able to send more messages without getting limited. I have 6 sets of lights and im sending anywhere from 12-18 requests per minute so even if i run my lights just from dark to dawn, any more automation i want to do is going to hit that request limit.
